A multi-disciplinary approach to ageing
The Albertina and Walter Sisulu Institute of Ageing in Africa (IAA) bridges the fields of medicine, psychiatry, psychology and gerontology to explore the wide-ranging aspects of ageing – from social and cultural influences to psychological and cognitive factors. With a practical and multi-disciplinary approach, the institute is advancing the way we understand and address ageing in Africa.
Why what we do matters
By 2050, the number of people aged 60 and above in Africa is projected to triple, reaching 235 million. To effectively support this growing population with diverse needs, we are committed to generating valuable knowledge and expertise tailored to the region.
Through our interdisciplinary academic initiatives and partnerships, we equip stakeholders with the necessary tools to proactively tackle the challenges of population ageing and meet the complex requirements of older individuals. Our focus encompasses healthcare and socio-economic factors, ensuring a comprehensive approach to ageing in Africa.
